PZL TS-11 Iskra Bis D

Light attack and reconnaissance aircraft manufactured in Poland. Gift to Aviation museum by government of Poland.

First prototype of PZL TS-11 Iskra flew on February 5., 1950. There were built more than 500 aircrafts in few versions. 50 of them were bought by Indian Air Force.

Versions:

TS-11 Iskra-bis A - first serial version with two underwing weapons hard-points. It was powered by IL SO-3 engine with 9,81 kN of thrust.
TS-11 Iskra-bis B - variant TS-11 Iskra-bis A with four underwing weapons hard-points.
Iskra 100 - another designation of version TS-11 Iskra-bis B.
TS-11 Iskra-bis C - single-seat reconnaissance/attack version with the rear cockpit being replaced by an extra fuel tank, cameras and other equipment. Production started in 1972.
Iskra 200 - other designation of version TS-11 Iskra-bis C.
TS-11 Iskra-bis D - attacker variant of version TS-11 Iskra-bis B.
TS-11 Iskra-bis DF - combined version of TS-11 Iskra-bis C and TS-11 Iskra-bis D in the role of light attacker with four underwing hard-points and four cameras AFA-39. Aircraft is powered by more powerfull version of engine designated SO-3 W. Production started in 1982.
TS-11R Iskra - fully reconnaissance version TS-11 Iskra-bis DF without hard-points and with radar Bendix/King RDS-81 in nose section. Second cockpit is redesign for reconnaissance equipment operator.

Brief history of plane exhibited in Museum:

PZL TS-11 with fuselage number 1211 was manufactured on 9. September 1974 in WSK Mielec (Wytwórnia Sprzętu Komunikacyjnego). Serial number is 3H-1211. It came from XII production series as TS-11 Iskra bis D.
Delivered to Polish Air Force (Wojska Lotnicze) on 19. October 1974.
From 19. October 1974 to 16. May 1975 in 38 School Squadron (38 lotniczy pułk szkolny) "38 LPSz" based on airfield MODLIN near Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki.
From 16. May 1975 to 23. November 1982 in 40 Fighter-School Squadron (40 pułk lotnictwa myśliwsko-szkolnego) "40 PLMSz" based on airfield ŚWIDWIN
From 23. November 1982 to15. May 1984 in 40 Fighter-Bomber Squadron (40 pułk lotnictwa myśliwsko-bombowego) "40 PLMB" based on airfield ŚWIDWIN
From 15. May 1984 to 1. September 1987 in 58 School-Fighting Squadron (58 lotniczy pułk szkolno-bojowy) "58 LPSz-B" based on airfield DĘBLIN
From 1. September 1987 to 18. April 1988 in 58 School Squadron (58 lotniczy pułk szkolny) "58LPSz" based on airfield DĘBLIN
From 22. April 1988 to 9. March 1989 repaired on WZL-2 Bydgoszcz (Military Aviation Works No. 2) (Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze)
From 9. March 1989 to 26. July 1991 in 3 School-Bomber Squadron (3 "Pomorski" lotniczy pułk szkolno-bombowy) "3 LPSz-B" based on airfield BYDGOSZCZ-SZWDEROWO
From 26. July 1989 to 1. January 2001 in 58 School Squadron (58 lotniczy pułk szkolny) "58 LPSz" based on airfield DĘBLIN
From 1. January 2001 to the end of the service in the 1 Aviation School Center (1 Ośrodek Szkolenia Lotniczego) "1OSL on airfield DĘBLIN
When it's service ends "1211" has been transferred to AMW (Agencja Mienia Wojskowego) - Military Property Agention, and later to Muzeum Letectva v Košiciach as gift from Polish Government.
